FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Who can register with Acton Soccer Club?
We run house league programs for children/youth players, for those who
will be five or older during the year of the season. So, for example, in
2011, those born in 2006 or earlier can play.
New last year:
Under-13 and Under-11 Boys Competitive (Rep) with South Region Soccer
League Under-16 Girls Select with Peel Halton Select Soccer League and
Under-9 Boys Allstar Tryouts will be posted under the Competitive
(Rep/Select) tab on our Homepage menu. Costs for the 2011 Outdoor Season
still TBD. Contact the Director of Competitive Soccer with questions.
Fourth
year in 2011: Gerry-HatTricks Adult Co-Ed recreational soccer. Run on
mini-soccer fields, 5v5 (goalie plus 4 outfielders) on Sunday mornings
at about 10-11 am with no referees - this is intended to reproduce the
feel of the indoor Co-Ed league on Sunday afternoons. We have chosen
Sunday mornings to try and catch the weather before it gets hot. And the
costs were low - it was a blast!
Ladies and Mens leagues are
separate from Acton Soccer Club, but we work with the teams. Contact
the President at president@actonsoccer.org .
Do they play out of town games?
Under-5 to Under-10 programs run in Acton. Under-12 and up play
in other towns. Last year, for example, Under-12 boys played about 70%
in Acton, plus Rockwood, Milton Soccer Academy, Puslinch, Hillsburgh and
Grand Valley. Under-18 boys played games in Bolton, Georgetown, Milton,
Hillsburgh, and Caledon.
What about player books?
What about player books?
Since 2009 - Recreational players do not
need player books! Select, Competitive (Rep), and All-Star (tournament)
teams are the only ones needing books.
Where are the soccer fields?
We have maps! Follow this link to the Acton field locations.
The
pride of Acton are the two fields at Villa Park, also known as Acton
Sports Park. Field #1 was the first lit field in Acton, and was open
during the 2008 season. The second lit field was new for 2009. The
fields belong to the Town of Halton Hills and Acton Villa rents them
from the Town - but we are proud to point out that the Club contributed
$150,000 of Charity Bingo earnings to this project.
How do you know which age group they will play in?
See the table at the top of this page...
Special Requests.
Once again, there are no special requests for youth players to choose team mates or coaches this year. We will, however, put children with parents if the parent is coaching, and we will put siblings on the same team as each other.
Requests for players to be in a higher age group - based on ability - will be considered carefully, and are usually (almost always) granted.
*** DUE TO ENORMOUS HEADACHES IN OTHER YEARS, WE DO NOT HONOR SOCIAL OR TRANSPORTATION REQUESTS. MOST OTHER LOCAL SOCCER CLUBS HAVE BEEN WORKING THIS WAY FOR YEARS. ***
Note that for Under-10 and younger, all players have the same schedule whatever team they are on. Older age groups should be able to car pool, parents can figure this out at practices and games.
Which Age Groups are Mixed?
Under-8 and younger play with mixed teams. Since 2008, Under-10 is played as Boys and Girls separate leagues. Older ages are segregated into boys and girls.
What nights are practices and games?
See table at top of this page.
Is there a Rep or Select program?
Yes, Acton Villa is proud to have Allstar, Select and Competitive (Rep) teams! Contact the Director of Competitive Soccer with questions. Or click on the Competitive Soccer tab in the left menu bar.
Do the players keep their uniforms, like last year?
Yes, in YOUTH, outdoor they do: fees include shirt, shorts and socks. Players must provide shin guards and shoes.
In Gerry HatTricks, we provide a shirt: player provides everything else.
Men's Inter-County and Ladies Recreational Soccer League teams are run separately by the teams.
For ADULT indoor, the club will provide a shirt that the player can keep, but the player has to provide the rest of the equipment.
How can I contribute to soccer in Acton?
We always need referees, adults and youths: training provided. Coaches are often in short supply, as are volunteers for administrative tasks. Visit the CONTACTS page to work out who to talk to.
Vacancies exist for:
Conveners, most age groups.
Various admin positions.
When are my team's photos being taken . . .
2012 details to be posted at a later date.
How do I alert my team that my child has severe allergies
Download our sample letter, fill in details, print out and give copies to your team parents, coach, convenor and the Registrar. If you click on the link it will open, or right click and "save target as", this all depends on your browser.
Be Safe Tip: Remind your child's coach to inform team mates and their parents of your child's allergies.
Don't forget to ask that snacks that may not be safe for your child be consumed after practice or game play once all equipment has been packed up to minimize the risk of cross-contamination of allergens onto the team's equipment!
